Welcome to websitecasa. Over the years we’ve built hundreds of websites and we’ve learned a few things along the way. BUT before I share my hints and tips let me give you some context.

Our customers are usually new or startup businesses with a limited budget and are building their first website. We specialize in helping customers get up and running fast and most importantly generate money from their website. So if that doesn’t describe you then you might not agree with some of my suggestions.

I’ll start with my most controversial suggestion; don’t make a COMING SOON page. It serves no purpose and adds no value. In-fact it could work against you if google indexes the site. The same rule applies to pages on your site, if you don’t have the content for the page don’t put it in your menu. In short, wait until your site is built tested and ready to go. Once it’s ready, launch it and promote it.

Next….. a site is never finished so don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Start with the minimum viable product (MVP) and go from there. Make changes based on real feedback and customer suggestions.

This next point most clients disregard, and usually regret it. Don’t focus on form over function. In other words make sure that your site is fast, user friendly and google friendly. Don’t compromise how your site performs in a quest to win a design award (unless you are a creative). The value of a website is the ability for people who are searching for your product or service to find you. That should be your primary objective. Your secondary objective is to serve the customers that you already have.

Similarly don’t try to be all things to all people. Without getting super technical let me just say that Google will reward you for being specific. As a new business focus on a very specific niche within your market and once you dominate that expand. I can hear people eyes rolling their eyes, but hey, what do know?

Lastly, have a plan. When you approach a web designer be clear on what it is you are trying to sell and who your target market is. It also helps if you provide a few competitor websites.

Having a website is no longer an optional part of running a business. Your customers expect to be able to find you online so don’t disappoint them.
