I’ve been wanting to make a personal website for such a long time, and now it’s finally happening! Last week I walked you all through my experience with UI/UX design through Figma. This week I used Squarespace’s powerful, yet easy to use web hosting site to finally create my Life of Luba website! Follow through with my vlog and follow along as I produce my own landing page while also getting some real and actionable advice from my friend who is a product designer.

Websites are the best digital business cards

Sure there’s Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Youtube; but there is still value in having a personal page that highlights what valuable resources you’re working on and a page that collects any business inquiries.

All of this gives an opportunity to highlight “me and my brand.”

Always create a blueprint for your content

When creating your personal website the trickiest and most important part is to figure out the content of your site. You should always have an idea of what your content is - the text, the images, the videos. What is the main message of the website? This will make it easier in directing you when you start putting everything together.

To avoid dense information and clutter it’s vital that you split the content/projects you want featured into different pages. Alexa advises that using Google Drive to blueprint your content can be an essential tool in crafting your website.

Create a folder in google drive (name it your website)
Create a page for every page you want on your website
Document links you want on your website
Create a folder of creative assets: images, videos, etc.

Squarespace makes it easy to use the website

Squarespace provides several templates so after creating your content as advised above, you can plug in and go. There are an array of color palettes that are provided, but also customizable. This website builder is so intuitive and so adjustable all reachable on the sidebar. Creating simplicity can be difficult, but squarespace makes it easy not to mess up!
