Building a website for your youth sports program is important to help promote your teams, register players, manage payments, and communicate during your season. Watch our video or read the tips below to get rolling before your next season!
Tip # 1 – Choose a Website Builder that’s made for Sports – Don’t take on too much work and try to build something from scratch. If you’ve never managed a website before, make sure to use a system that’s made for sports. The website should have templates that are made for posting sports schedules, profiles, and registering players. Websites nowadays should be simple and painless to manage – and you can even update lots of websites on your phone.
Tip #2 – You should also make sure you get a domain name like yoursportsorganization.com – this will make it super easy to promote your website, and also much easier for parents and players to find your website on Google. If you have a domain already it can almost always be transferred to a new website so you never have to change domains.
Tip #3 – Set Up Player Registration and Online Payments – Registering players and collecting payments efficiently is one of your most important roles as a volunteer. It’s critical that parents and community members can quickly fill out a form and pay on your website. Make sure your website build has built in sports registration software, and can collect payments via credit or debit card from parents. Managing all of your registration online through your website will save you tons of time and paperwork, and help you register more players.
Tip #4 – Promote Your Sponsors – Post all of your sponsors on your website with their logos, names, and links to the their website. You should also list information on your website about sponsorship packages, how to pay to become a sponsor, and who to contact with questions.
Tip #5 – Recruit Volunteers – Make sure it’s easy to find volunteer information on the website. List why it’s important to volunteer and the different opportunities you have available. List requirements to become a coach or volunteer, like your Code of Conduct or background check policy.
