If you’re using a free theme or plugin from the WordPress.org repository, automatic updates are available from your dashboard. Even for most modern premium themes and plugins, automatic updates are available. However, there are times when these updates aren’t available or aren’t working properly.
To get around this issue, you can manually update the theme with a zip file. Once you’ve got the zip file ready, you’ll need to take one more step before you begin the upload. If you try to upload a new version of a theme or plugin while it’s already installed, you’ll get a “destination folder already exists” error message. Normally, you’d have to delete the theme/plugin first before uploading. However, deleting a theme or plugin could delete your settings which would be a huge headache. The solution is a simple and free plugin showcase din this video.
With the “Update Theme and Plugins from Zip File” plugin, you can upload a new copy of an existing theme or plugin on your site. This way, you can simply upload the zip file without needing to delete anything first. You can deactivate or delete the plugin after you use it for the upload process.
Once you know this method, you can manually update any theme or plugin on your site.
