My answer would be yes. You should niche down. This will make your life much easier as you will be able to understand your audience better. When you are talking to everyone, you are talking to no one.
Picking a niche will also help you please Google. As your content will be very specific towards one niche, you will become an expert. With that authority, you will improve your ranking.
You have to niche down and nail down one specific topic/niche.
Having a niche will allow you to create a good community, a loyal audience. Target a niche, focus on it, and build trust and authority within that niche.
Keep in mind, it is of course possible to rank on Google without a niche. It will take you quite a long time as well as a lot of money. But it is still possible. I take in this video the example of Forbes to show you how tricky it can get.
