7 YouTube Video SEO Tips:

1. Find topics with high search volume through keyword research. You can see how I performed keyword research for my recent Canva Tutorial for Beginners video by using VidIQ and Ahrefs.

2. Tell YouTube what your video is about. By using the keyword and other similar phrases in the video title, description, and tags, you help YouTube’s algorithm understand what your video is about so it knows who to initially show your video to.

3. Get people to click on your videos. Click through rate (CTR) is one of the most important YouTube metrics. No one can watch your video if they don’t first click on it. Spend a lot of time on your video thumbnail and title so when people see your video in search results or suggested video they want to click on your video.

4. Keep people watching videos on YouTube. Watch time is as important at CTR. You need to keep people on YouTube watching your video and ideally additional videos before ending their YouTube session. You can’t see this in YouTube Studio / YouTube analytics but YouTube measures session time (how long someone spends on YouTube in 1 session). Use cards and end screens to recommend other content to keep viewers watching more of your content back to back. If you can help YouTube keep viewers on YouTube longer, you’ll be rewarded with more views on your videos.

5. Get people to interact with your content. When you get someone to like, comment, or subscribe while watching one of your videos, that sends a signal to YouTube that people enjoy your content. If it’s clear that people enjoy consuming your content, YouTube will find more people to show your videos to.

6. Embed your videos on your website. A study done by Briggsby (https://www.briggsby.com/reverse-engineering-youtube-search) found that the more links or embeds a video had, the higher it ranked in YouTube search results. Create blog posts on your website and embed your YouTube videos.

7. Drive as much traffic to your videos within the first 24-48 hours of publishing. Share your videos in the community tab if you have over 1,000 subscribers. Share your YouTube videos to your email list. Share your videos on all of your social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Pinterest. Also, you can share your videos on forums such as Quora or Reddit.
