Is Thin Content Hurting My Website & SEO Rankings?

Is thin content actually hurting your website and SEO rankings? Thin content is content that has little or no value to the user. Businesses are often surprised when such a large percentage of pages on their website has thin content.

How does this happen? Let’s say you hire an SEO company that writes blog content for your site. Since they aren’t industry experts, there’s little depth to each blog post. Each blog/article is around 350 – 450 words. They’ve written over 100 blogs over the past several years.

This could actually be doing more harm than good for your SEO and keyword rankings! In 2013, Google introduced a thin content manual penalty. If Google’s algorithms detect that a page’s content is duplicated, keyword-stuffed, or even just contributing to high bounce rates, it’s likely to be branded as “thin.”

Jason Parks of The Media Captain walks through a scenario of how a website could be slapped with a thin content penalty without realizing it did anything wrong! Most importantly, Jason walks through steps to fix thin content issues.
